Why is this important to know?
Educators must increase their knowledge of the historical, as well as, current-day U.S. immigration trends to develop a broader understanding of why people immigrant to the U.S., who they are, the predominant regions and municipalities where they settle in the U.S., and the socio-economic implications for communities with these new entrants.
Objectives/Purpose
1.To understand the historical and current-day U.S. immigrations trends;
2. To achieve a basic knowledge of the demographics of the current-day immigrant groups and their socio-economic potential;
3. To develop appropriate methods and programs for serving the new clientele and the local business community/employers.
Utilization
Knowledge and awareness unit which will prepare the extension professional to develop more effective methods and programs to assist the new clientele.
This will be the first unit in the module presented. Therefore, the training instructor will commence the activity with introductions, each person in the group identifying himself/herself and giving a brief personal background e.g., name, title, organization, duties, and what he/she hopes to achieve through the training (30 minutes). The instructor will then introduce Module 5 and start the program with the Introduction, using a PowerPoint presentation (45 minutes), with 15 minutes of questions and answers to follow.
