Pinkeye (Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis, or IBK)

Pinkeye (Infectious Bovine Keratoconjunctivitis, or IBK)-An infection of the eye caused by infection with the bacterium Moraxella bovis, spread by flies. 

Clinical Symptoms:

  • watery eyes
  • swelling of the eyes
  • corneal opacity and ulceration

Prevention:

  • control of flies
  • isolate infected animals
  • select breeding cattle with eyelid pigmentation
  • vaccination as an adjunct to sound management

Treatment:

  • Oxytetracycline
  • patch over eye
