Parenting Tips for Your 31-32 Month Old Toddler
At this age, some toddlers are learning to play with other children. But some toddlers start to show how shy they are. Shyness is normal for most toddlers at some point. Some toddlers are only shy when they are tired or in a new situation.
Some toddlers are only shy with adults. Other toddlers are shy most of the time. Most children are shy at least some time until they are school age. We know that about 1 in 5 children are shy at birth and do not ever grow out of it. But at this age, you can’t tell if your child is one of these. If your toddler is shy, be patient. Instead of pushing her to talk or join a group, let her watch and join when she’s ready.
You can help her join a group of playmates by:
- Go with her to join in the play.
- Sit with her.
- Talk to her about what is going on. “Look, they’re playing ball. You like to play with balls too.”
- Help her find ways to play. “Try rolling the ball back to him.”
