Parenting Tips for Your 27-28 Month Old Toddler

Many parents feel guilty about putting their toddlers in childcare. But the right child care can help toddlers learn and develop. Toddlers who are in quality child care do better when they start school. When choosing child care, look for a program that is safe, nurturing, and has lots of learning opportunities.

Look for child care that has:

  • Teachers who talk and listen to the children. This helps teach your toddler language skills.
  • Teachers who play with the children. Caring adults make it feel safe for your toddler to learn social skills.
  • Many different kinds of play. Building, reading, sorting, pretending, and drawing all help your toddler’s development.
  • No T.V. for toddlers. If there is television, make sure there are limits on time and that the shows are right for your toddler’s age.
  • Rules and routines which are easy for your toddler to follow. Learning to follow rules and routines will help your toddler be ready for school.
  • Chances to visit the program before you sign up and drop in after your child is enrolled. Look around and talk to the caregivers to see if they offer the things on this list. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
