LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska youth involved with the EntrepreneurShip Investigation, or ESI, curriculum recently competed in a contest that judged Web sites, videos and commercials they did for their own businesses.

EntrepreneurShip Investigation is a 4-H curriculum that teaches youth how to become young entrepreneurs. The contest gave youth from across the state an opportunity to showcase their Web sites, videos and commercial entries.

The contest was held in advance of the Nebraska State Fair's 4-H Cyber Fair.

The Web sites, videos and commercial entries highlighted businesses youth started up and were products they could use for their businesses after the contest.

The competition encouraged youth to participate in ESI, gave more visibility to their businesses and showed what could be done in the project and for a real-life business.

The divisions for the competition included:

– Beginner: Start Up Youth Business Owners who have a plan, but are not yet in operation

– Intermediate: One to Three Year Youth Business Owners

– Advanced: Three or More Year Youth Business Owners

Participants did not have to be enrolled in 4-H to participate in this competition. Winners were awarded cash prizes.

The commercial and Web site entries were available for public viewing during the Nebraska State Fair in the 4-H Cyber Fair building and also will be on the ESI Web site.

Also available for viewing at the Cyber Fair building was a product display for items created by Nebraska youth as they participated in ESI 4-H clubs or ESI camps.
