The goal of the Urban Integrated Pest Management Community of Practice is to help the public better understand how integrated pest management (IPM) programs can be implemented in urban settings and to provide tools to help manage pest problems in a safe, practical and economic manner.
Although the term IPM is commonly used in pest management settings, it’s not always used correctly. True IPM involves using multiple tactics to combat pests. This includes but is not limited to mechanical, sanitation and chemical practices.
The Urban Integrated Pest Management Community of Practice is a virtual community lead by Extension professionals from across the country. It includes members from land-grant universities and other agencies, including the United States Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency. The Urban IPM team's ongoing collaborative work will provide the public with a source of reliable, up-to-date information from a vast knowledge base of science-based, peer reviewed materials.
