What are the ABC’s of School IPM?
According to the EPA, "Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of common-sense practices".
IPM programs in schools use current, comprehensive information on the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. This information, in combination with available pest control methods, is used to manage pest damage by the most economical means, and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment. These are some of the ABC’s of IPM.
Tools You Can Use!
Many of the people that work in schools use Spanish as their primary language. Even folks who are comfortable speaking English prefer to learn in Spanish. For these reasons the University of Florida Extension Service and Texas AgriLife Extension Service have developed a video series on School IPM in Spanish. These videos will be available soon for a fee and they will come with a study guide also in Spanish. Successful completion of these courses will provide Florida DACS CEUs for pesticide recertification. Please let us know if you want to join the waiting list to be the first to buy the six video series “The ABC’s of School IPM en Espanol!”. Depending on demand CEUs may be available in other states.
