LINCOLN, Neb. — A multi-state crop insurance workshop scheduled this month in Nebraska and three other states will address risk management decisions in times of global recession.
"Managing the Risks of Farm Price Volatility and the Global Recession" will be the theme of the conference, scheduled Nov. 11 in Grand Island, Nov. 10 in Brush, Colo., Nov. 12 in Salina, Kan., and Nov. 13 in Enid, Okla.
The workshops are a joint effort of University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, Colorado State University Extension, Kansas State University Research and Extension, and Oklahoma State University Extension.
Doug Jose, extension farm management specialist at UNL, said the workshop will provide crop insurance agents, agricultural lenders and other risk management service providers information to make more profitable risk management decisions.
Cary Sandell, vice president and relationship manager with the Midwest Food and Agribusiness Regional Commercial Banking Office at Wells Fargo Bank in Lincoln, will discuss the status of the general economy and the process of economic recovery at the Grand Island session.
Brad Lubben, UNL extension public policy specialist, will talk about managing risk with the new farm income safety net that is part of the federal farm program. Art Barnaby, professor and extension ag economist at KSU, will address crop insurance decisions. Mike Woolverton, professor and extension specialist at KSU, will talk about the outlook of grain and oilseed.
Rebecca Davis, director of the Regional Office Risk Management Agency, will discuss actuarial and underwriting changes for the 2010 crop year. Shannon Ferrell, assistant professor of ag law at Oklahoma State University, will talk about the risks and rewards of agricultural contracting.
