URBANA, Ill. - When winter hits, the snow flies, and the roads become treacherous, who are you going to call? One option is a new University of Illinois Extension website, Winter Storm Resource Center (http://urbanext.illinois.edu/winter/).

"Winter Snow Resource Center" includes links to Illinois highway conditions, Amtrak schedules, Chicago Transit Authority routes, various airports, tips for driving in the snow, how to start a dead battery, getting your car ready for winter, and other help information.

"It's a wonderful place to go to find highway conditions and weather forecasts," said Jane Scherer, U of I Extension urban programs specialist and director of its websites.

Developed by Ron Wolford, an Extension horticulture and environment educator, the website links to a wide array of information on weather and winter storms.
