Children and Weight in Child Care

Childhood obesity is a serious and growing problem in the United States. Child care providers can play an important role in helping young children maintain a healthy weight as they grow by providing well-balanced meals and snacks and building in regular opportunities for physical activity.

Although being overweight can have many physical and emotional consequences for children, it is important not to place extreme emphasis on weight when working with young children.
