MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center, a part of eXtension, is planning several Webcasts this spring that delve into livestock and poultry environmental issues.

eXtension is an interactive learning environment that delivers research-based information from land grant universities. K-State Research and Extension is part of eXtension.

Each Webcast is one hour long and is available to producers and anyone else interested in the topics. They are typically held the third Friday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Central Time.

The Webcast dates and topics include:

  • March 19 – Precision Phosphorus Feeding of the Dairy Cow – Highlights progress to date of an integrated project to increase the adoption of “Precision Phosphorus Feeding” on dairy farms.
  • April 16 – Ammonia emissions from poultry operations in the Chesapeake Bay area are being identified as a possible source of nitrogen contamination of water. What are the link and the implications for producers? (This topic is tentative.)
  • May 14 – Composting Animal Mortalities – Multiple species will be discussed, but there will be an emphasis on in-house composting of poultry mortalities.
