FLINT, Mich. — Michigan State University and the Crim Fitness Foundation, in partnership with Flint Community Schools, are instilling fitness and good nutrition into the lives of Flint students by assessing the effectiveness of the CrimFit Youth Program.
Beginning this month, Crim staffers and researchers from MSU's departments of Kinesiology and Radiology through the Center for Physical Activity and Health will be working with four elementary schools in Flint to collect information regarding health behaviors, academic performance and psychosocial characteristics. This research will ultimately be the catalyst to bring more CrimFit Youth programming into Flint Community Schools.
As a part of this effort, the Flint Farmers' Market also is working with the Crim foundation by providing coupons to each student participating in the assessment. These coupons will give students and their families the opportunity to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables.
