Presenter - Biography

Bonnie Braun portrait image

Dr. Bonnie Braun is the first Endowed Chair and Director of the Herschel S. Horowitz Center for Health Literacy at the University of Maryland School of Public Health. She is a Professor in the Department of Family Science and the Family Policy Specialist with the University of Maryland Extension. Her research focuses on family health literacy education and policy, rural, low-income family health and program evaluation. She's author of over 100 articles and has directed funded research and outreach projects totally over $15M. Her background is in family economics/resource management and family development.

Dr. Braun has extensive experience in public policy education including service as a key leader for the land-grant university system in responding to welfare reform. She was the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Chalkley-Fenn Public Policy Scholar. She is lead author of an article published in the Fall, 2009 Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences entitled: Family Health & Financial Literacy: Forging the Connection.
