eXtension today announced its free national webinars for October. eXtension is an educational resource you can trust to take the best university-based research and turn it into hands-on practical information you can use to solve today’s problems and develop skills to build a better future.
Experts from land-grant universities, government and industry present information on seasonal topics and current research to help Americans improve their lives.
October’s free webinars hosted by eXtension or a land-grant university are
- Oct. 1 -- setting up a grazing system on an organic dairy farm,
- Oct. 5 – free software to maintain a farm balance sheet,
- Oct. 12 -- public perception of dairy farms,
- Oct. 14 -- branding for a specialty food business,
- Oct. 15 – team dynamics for dairy advisory teams,
- Oct. 15 – using NAQSAT for air emissions reduction,
- Oct. 19 – equine metabolic syndrome,
- Oct. 20 – enjoyable and healthy eating for children ages 3 to 5,
- Oct. 20 – grass-finished beef,
- Oct. 21 -- costing out meat products efficiently and effectively, and
- Oct. 26 – live from National Poultry Waste Management Symposium.
Webinars are available nationwide simultaneously. The times listed are Eastern Time so viewers need to adjust the viewing time for Central, Mountain, Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii-Aleutian Time.

Friday, Oct. 1 -- Setting Up a Grazing System on Your Organic Dairy Farm

Consultant Sarah Flack from Fairfield, Vt. and professor Cindy Daley from Chico, Calif. will cover the basic principles of how to set up a grazing system which will improve pasture quality and animal performance. They’ll include paddock size calculations, recovery periods, maps and record-keeping and other resources.

Tuesday, Oct. 5 -- Taking Charge of Farm Finances: Balance Sheets are First Step

A balance sheet provides a critical tool to monitor and control the financial future of your business. Lenders take note when farm borrowers walk in the bank with a completed balance sheet in hand. Get an introduction to a free software package, “FINPACK Lite,” which allows you to enter and maintain your balance sheet. Dale Nordquist from the Center for Financial Management at University of Minnesota will talk about how to analyze a balance sheet, what lenders look for and what you should look for. He will show you how you can download FINPACK Lite and put it into action.
