Short Biography

Karen Hinton assumed the role of Dean and Director of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension in July of 1997 on an interim basis and stepped into the permanent role in January of 1998. She began her career with cooperative extension in 1981 as a Home Economist in Douglas County. In 1986, she became the Extension Educator in Carson City and then in 1995 became the Western Area Director. She has served on a number of national committees, including the eXtension Governing Committee, the Extension Committee on Policy, the Strategic Planning Council, the ECOP 4-H Task Force and the NIFA Program Panel for the Plan of Work. The mission of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is "To discover, develop, disseminate, preserve, and use knowledge to strengthen the social, economic, and environmental well-being of people."
