Do you live out of town and away from your family? Do you wish that you could see them more often? Perhaps e-mailing photos and downloading them to your computer is the answer. When someone sends you something via e-mail or when you find something on a website you might like to save for later, you may be able to download it. Downloading is just as it sounds - pulling something "down" onto your computer..
Sometimes if you just want to read something or print it out, there is no need to download the file - you may just want to push your print button (as you learned about earlier). Other times, you may want the file on your computer and will have to download it.

Back in the web page names section, you saw a note at the bottom where you would be able to download that information later if you chose - well, here's your chance! This might be something you want to have handy near your computer for future reference in evaluating websites.
To download this file, RIGHT CLICK your mouse on the link and choose Save (different browsers may have other names but usually "save" is part of the command). Tell your computer where you would like to save it. You should probably try to put these things in a place where you can easily find them later.

Think about viruses before you download. If you are using a commerical e-mail program such as Hotmail or Yahoo, they have virus scanners built-in. If you are using other services, you will have to call the company to ask. There are also programs available for purchase that will scan your files for viruses.
Also remember that large files may take a while to download, especially if your internet connection is slow. For all of these reasons, you may just want to stick to printing information.
