Before or after a flood there are many ways for an individual to reduce their potential for experiencing future flood damage (often called mitigation). These tasks or activities are steps that are taken to reduce or eliminate the risk of a flooding event. This could include structural changes to an individual’s home or property such as raising your home or changes to your property. Non-structural actions can be taken such as the purchase of flood insurance.
