Should I purchase a young horse for my child’s first horse so they could grow up together?

No. A rule of thumb is that the younger the rider, the older the first horse should be. The idea of a child and a young horse growing up together is appealing, but in reality that particular combination is seldom a satisfactory one. Another phrase to remember is GREEN + GREEN = BLACK AND BLUE!
