Do not use metal feeders to feed salt and minerals. Salt draws moisture and will cause rapid rusting, which means the horse may consume metal or metal fragments resulting in numerous digestive problems. There are a large number of plastic and plastic polymers that are excellent for salt and mineral feeding. The feeders may be purchased in all colors, sizes and shapes. There is no reason to feed in metal feeders today with the availability of the new plastic ones.
