Annual costs of caring for a horse may run $500 to $3,500 per year. Many factors affect costs of keeping a particular horse. Under complete confinement conditions (no pasture), much more feed, bedding and labor are required. Below are some categories of horse care expenses and their relative importance. These estimates are based on national, state and local surveys.

Feed 50%
Veterinary 19%
Farrier 10%
Bedding 8%
Insurance 6%
Tack 5%
Insecticides 2%

You must take into consideration that these are annual costs and do not take into account emergencies or initial purchases.
