As with any stallion, a breeding soundness exam should be done on a young (2- to 3-year-old) stallion before entering the breeding season. Two-year-old stallions can be bred to a limited number of mares and should be restricted to two services per week. As three-year-olds, they can be used once every other day. Approximately six to ten mares can be hand-bred to a two-year-old and 10 to 15 to a three-year-old. Testicle size is highly correlated to fertility. Therefore, the larger the testicle size, the more semen that is produced.
