Yes. The mare's external genitalia and the surrounding area should be washed with a mild liquid dish soap. The procedure is to soap and rinse three times, moving from the middle or inside toward the outside. The rinsing is important because soap is spermicidal and may also cause chaffing of the vulva lips.
