This is a relatively new term to the equine field that is open for discussion. It is often discussed along with insulin resistance and Cushing's-like disease in horses. It appears that the consensus is that the condition is due to insulin resistance (for whatever reason) in obese horses. Dietary management of such horses includes a diet high in fiber rather than soluble sugars/carbohydrates along with sufficient exercise to bring about weight loss.
