Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

My horse foundered from being overfed. The founder was caught quickly and handled quickly. She recovered quickly from the founder and was put on a very bland diet and special grain for horses that have suffered from founder. However, now she has been losing a lot of weight, and I've increased her grain rations and included a supplement called weight builder. This doesn't seem to be helping. What could be the problem, and what should I do?

Do you know the body condition score of your horse? It could be that her weight is approaching normal if she was overweight prior to foundering. How long have you been feeding the grain ration with weight builder? It will take a little time to put weight back on. I know I am asking a lot of questions and not giving you much of an answer, but it is hard to give solid advice without knowing these things.
