Can a horse be overfed?

View as web page

A horse can easily be overfed. Generally, you should not feed more than 1-2% of a horse's body weight per day, and feeding should be divided into two different feeding times.

So a normal feeding would be about 5 lbs. in the morning and night. You can increase or decrease the feed based on your horse's body condition. Avoid getting your horse fat.

Overfeeding can result in colic, founder and reduced performance.
