Horses can sometimes be slightly sore or tender in any foot after being trimmed. This may subside in a few days, or it may take longer to recover from being trimmed closely. We recommend consulting with your farrier to ensure that a more severe problem hasn't occurred.
One way to combat sore feet would be to apply venice turpentine to the hoof sole for a few days. This will help toughen the soles and reduce the tenderness that may have been caused by a close trim.
A horse that is freshly shod and ridden, especially on rough terrain, may also become sore very quickly. If your horse exhibits tenderness after being trimmed, it is a good idea to refrain from riding for a day or so.
