Everyone with a young stallion has to make this decision, and it is one that is really up to the owner. However, unless you are equipped with special facilities to house a stallion and have previously had experience around one, it is generally best to either geld the horse or find an experienced trainer to help instead of trying to show him yourself. Again, it is up to you the owner. If successful in the show ring, the horse may be a valuable stallion. However, if showing and pleasure riding are more important to you than the added responsibility of managing and marketing a stallion for stud after you have obtained the necessary success in the ring, then the answer would be to geld him. As a reference, a young stud colt needs to be exceptional to be left intact. There is a good market for broke geldings.
