We are wanting to breed our Welsh mare with a 15-hand gaited stallion. Will the Welsh mare have trouble with the size of the foal at birth?

There should not be any problem with the size of the foal with the mating you are suggesting. Research has reported pony mares being inseminated with draft horse semen and the resulting foaling not being detrimental to the mare. The fetus' growth and development are determined by the uterine environment of the mare. Although the size of the foal may not cause a problem with foaling, there are a number of other things that can cause problems, and it is best to be present at foaling.
