Equine Periodic Ophthalmia (EPO)is moonblindness. It is an infection of the eye that was originally observed to occur approximately as often as a new moon. There are many theories on the cause of EPO, such as vitamin deficiencies or excess nutritional factors and genetics. Some research indicates that there is a genetic predisposition to EPO, but there are also some environmental factors that may contribute.
