Should I work my horse that is still a little lame a year after a sesamoid ligament strain?

Tendons and ligaments are very slow to heal and 6 months to a year of rest is generally needed. Very little improvement can be expected after a year. Work should improve circulation in the area and might stimulate a positive response, so try working him slowly and build up to heavier work if he responds well. Monitor the horse closely as you begin to work him for signs of increasing lameness.
