Water heaters when properly grounded and installed according to manufacturer's direction should be safe. Several years of experience with these devices lead us to emphasize measures to keep the cords, plugs, and any extension cords from horse contact. The biggest danger occurs when a horse inadvertently cuts the cord by stepping on it, purposely bites the cord, or if the cord has become frayed and damaged with age.
