Is it safe to feed hay treated with ammonium propionate to mares in foal and foals?

Current information from toxicologists indicates that feeding hay treated with ammonium propionate shouldn't be a concern. For a little peace of mind, you could follow up with the hay supplier to ensure that 1) it was applied according to recommended rates and 2) the company supplying the chemical doesn't have any warnings on the label of the product used on the hay. If you still have concerns, you could feed the treated hay to geldings or your other classes of horses.
