Skin conditions can be very frustrating to deal with. Some conditions are related to external parasites such as Culicoides, internal parasites such as Onchocerca, or fungal conditions. The three potential cures are fly spray for external parasites, dewormers (ivermectin) for internal parasites, and mild iodine sprays or wipes for fungal problems. Additionally, there are several commercial products for treating fungal problems that do seem to work well. If your horse has not resolved, you may want to ask for further diagnostics from your veterinarian to identify the source of the problem. These conditions can be difficult to pin down and may require some serious efforts to isolate the true cause.
