Have a question? Try asking one of our Experts

We have a pasture that we plan to use for our horses, and it has quite a few small cactuses in it. Should we remove them before placing our horses there, or are horses bothered by cactus?

Your horses should avoid the cactus plants; however, there may be the odd accidental encounter. Your horse may investigate the plants, but it is unlikely that they will pay much attention to them. If the cactus numbers are high, you may want to remove them by spraying. Your best source of information on what to use to remove cactus from the pasture in this fashion would be your local Cooperative Extension agent.
