Selection of a weed control product will depend on the weeds you are trying to control. In most pastures, horse owners are trying to control broadleaf weeds, and when you look at the herbicides for weed control, their label directions will often not indicate a waiting period for horses. If there is a waiting period listed for livestock and/or dairy cows, that should be reasonable. Most give a 14-day waiting period, and that seems reasonable. Horses grazing on the dead weeds may be a concern. One product Cimarron is listed as a 0-day waiting period, while Clarity/Banvel has a 7-day period at the 1 pt/acre level and 21 days at the 2 pt/acre level. You can consult your county Extension service to discuss the appropriate herbicide for the weeds you are trying to control.
