Mosaic (green and yellow) patterns on leaves, leaf crinkling and downward cupping, and shoot tip dieback symptoms can be caused by bean yellow mosaic virus or related viruses such as peanut stunt virus and clover yellow vein virus. These viruses are spread by aphids from red and white clover plants growing near the garden.

There are no chemical controls recommended for virus diseases. Control of aphids may reduce spread and severity. Do not save seed as some viruses are transmitted through seed. Make serial plantings of beans, and plant a few rows of corn as a barrier between beans and clovers growing nearby. Keep a weed-free barrier around your garden.
