Why are my home garden cantaloupes not very sweet?

Gardens & Landscapes April 09, 2008|Print
Several factors can influence the quality of melons. The most likely culprit is too much moisture from rainfall or irrigation during the latter part of the season, causing the fruit to accumulate less sugar or to dilute the sugar that is already present. Leaf loss due to insect or disease pressure may also reduce the amount of sugar produced and stored in the fruit.
