Highbush (northern) Vaccinium corymbosum L. blueberries will do well in most parts of Kentucky. Blueberry soil requirements differ from those of most other fruit crops. They thrive in a highly organic, well-drained soil with a pH of 4.5 to 5.2. Most Kentucky soils do not meet these requirements; however, you can amend most sites to provide an environment suitable for blueberries. Begin soil amendments at least one year before planting the bushes.
