What types of materials can I compost?

Gardeners can compost a wide variety of items from both the kitchen and the yard.  Examples of compostable items: *grass clippings - do not use clippings from lawns recently treated with pesticides *leaves - chip leaves with the lawn mower or a shredder *woody clippings - be sure material is chipped to 2 inches or less *shredded newspaper - avoid slick color ads *agricultural manures - do not include pet (cat, dog) waste or human waste *kitchen vegetable scraps - do not include meat, cheese, eggs, or oils
