Containers used for seed germination may vary but should have certain characteristics. They should be 2-3 inches deep, sterile, and have holes in the bottom for drainage and water uptake. Single containers may be used for many cultivars of plants; however, it would be best to germinate only one cultivar of a certain plant in small containers. The environment may be more accurately controlled to meet the cultivar requirements.
