How do I care for an amaryllis so it will rebloom?

Give your amaryllis good growing conditions (bright light, routine watering, and fertilization) after the flowers have died so the leaves can produce food to fill the bulb for flower formation. About the end of August, stop watering the plant and allow the leaves to yellow and dry down. Store your amaryllis bulb in a cool (55 degrees F), dry location for about three to four months. Take out of storage three to four weeks before you want it to bloom; place in bright light and begin watering. Repot the bulb only when necessary (every four to five years).
