If I put out more fire ant control product than I'm supposed to, am I doing any harm?

Yes.  If you use more fire ant control product than is recommended on the label, you are doing more harm than good because:

  • Some contact insecticides are repellent to the ants when too much is used, which results in poor fire ant control.
  • In addition, if you apply more than you are supposed to, you are in violation of the law.
  • Excessive pesticides can run off and contaminate waterways, including drinking water. Always read the label and apply fire ant control products according to the directions.
