Muskrats are hosts to large numbers of endo- and ectoparasites and serve as carriers for a number of diseases including tularemia, hemorrhagic diseases, leptospirosis, giardiasis, Tyzzer's disease, ringworm disease, and pseudotuberculosis. The most common ectoparasites are mites and ticks; endoparasites are predominantly trematodes, nematodes, and cestodes.
