Yes, toxicants are available for use in controlling thirteen-lined ground squirrels. Before using any pesticide, you must read and understand all label directions. You must also follow all label directions whenever applying any pesticide.

Many of the pesticides (rodenticides) used to control thirteen-lined ground squirrels are Restricted Use Pesticides (RUPs) that may only be sold to and used by certified pesticide applicators or persons working under their direct supervision, and only for those uses covered by the licensed applicator’s certification. Some of the rodenticides mentioned may not be registered for every use in all states or provinces. Contact your local Cooperative Extension agent, USDA-Wildlife Services, state/provincial pesticide regulatory agency, or state/provincial fish and wildlife agency for information regarding any special permit requirements or endangered species restrictions. Specific use instructions will be found on each pesticide product's label.
