When talking about selecting scion wood, what is a watersprout?

The term watersprout refers to current season growth which is a vigorously growing, unbranched shoot. A watersprout generally grows vertically and may arise from a primary scaffold limb or smaller branch, often adjacent to a pruning wound. These are often excellent sources of dormant grafting wood.
