How are cantaloupes pollinated?

As with all cucurbits, the male and female flowers are separate on the same plant. The male flowers are the first to open, so fruit set should not be expected when flowers are first seen. Bees must carry pollen from the male flower to the female flower to ensure good fruit set and development. Delay any insecticide applications until late in the day to avoid killing bees.
