Is there a benefit to mowing with a push reel mower instead of a rotary mower?

Last Updated: January 07, 2008

A properly adjusted push reel mower can give a superior cut at lower mowing heights when compared to a rotary mower. However, at the higher recommended mowing height of 2 inches or higher for species like Kentucky bluegrass and tall fescue, rotary mowers are most effective and much easier to maintain. Regardless of which mower you use, the blades should be sharpened regularly.
