Should I use a fine fescue turf in my lawn?

Last Updated: October 07, 2007

Fine fescues such as red fescue, chewings fescue, sheep fescue, and hard fescue are not well adapted for home lawns in zones 6 & 7. They have poor traffic tolerance, are susceptible to disease and grub damage, and tend to go semi-dormant in the summer when grown in full sun. Normally, fine fescues are best used in partially shaded lawns and not in full sun.
