Should I treat the entire lawn with a weed control herbicide?

Unless your lawn has a severe weed problem from years of neglect, it is often unnecessary to treat the entire lawn. It is usually best to spot treat the problem areas with a herbicide labeled for the weeds you are trying to control. If you have an assortment of broadleaf weeds, combination products applied during the fall will control most weeds. Weeds such as crabgrass are best controlled by applying a preemergent herbicide to the most susceptible lawn areas in the early spring.
