There are two basic types of sod, nursery sod and field or pasture sod. For a home lawn, you should only purchase a high quality nursery-grown sod from a reputable sod farm. Beware of low cost field sod. It may contain weeds that are difficult or impossible to remove later on. Quality sod is often available in small quantities at garden centers, or you can usually check the yellow pages for "sod and sodding".
